Gotta Love DoubleSpeak

I love how this ugly POS prosecutor tried to double-speak her way through her envy of hot chicks.

In one sentence she says “Women have a RIGHT to be protected”

and only a minute later she says

“Well this isn’t about your freedom or you deciding for yourself, we will decide for you”

The most interesting part is how nobody is falling for it. These tactics have been so over-used, that everyone was rolling their eyes as she was trying it out. Oh, and there was also the mandatory jibe at how “disgusting” single guys are. I love the disgusting tonality with which she described “a guy sitting alone”. It was almost as if she was describing a gruesome horror movie.

How To Make Better Decisions

This is a nice documentary based on some principles and findings in social psychology. Mostly about how we make bad choices, and then rationalize them back to ourselves.

It’s a great, fun and fascinating documentary about making everyday decisions and how to avoid falling into the mind-traps that our mind is built for.

Aside: PseudoIntellectuals invent terms

I went to the blog of a known pseudo-intellectual blogger the other day.

And so… he had this post where the entire fucking post was him just throwing around fancy sounding evo-psych terms and social-psych terms… Here’s the problem. The sentences made no sense if you actually are qualified in social psychology. He was using terms that have nothing to do with the sentence he was using them in…

But then, later into the text I came to see a few even fancier sounding terms… I was like holy shit, I’ve never heard of that term in any textbook, study or anything really. So I went to google scholar…

http://scholar.google.com/

I copy-pasted his phrase, did a search, and it came back with no results. In short, it means the fucker made up the term… But the way he writes is so fucking convincing, if you didn’t have qualifications in the subject you’d assume this dork is a PhD in either evo-psych or soc-psych. I keep seeing him just make shit up, and make claims about studies that the study itself never said…

But now he’s fucking getting away with inventing new terms… And in fact, he uses the term AS IF it were something well-established, but in truth he just conjoined two fancy terms he doesn’t even understand, and then he makes a fucking entire column based on something that doesn’t exist. And the fuckers fucking lap it up.

Now I get not everyone has studied this shit, but how can people be so unskeptical and never do searches on their own to confirm shit said online? Like how the fuck can someone just accept someone’s online authority. For fucking’s fuck sake, maybe I’m a grandma typing this on my grand-sons computer. Why do so many gullible fucks just eat shit up and never double check shit.

I see it all over the nets, not just with guys’ blogs. It’s also rampant on dieting blogs. Someone just fucking declares them-self an authority and gives out commands and laws about how things ARE, and people just fucking eat it up… It’s weird shit, really weird.

And it’s not like double-checking is hard. You just type “term research truth” or “pseudoscience term”, with term being the thing made a claim on. If you type searches like that on google you will often find a qualified skeptic ripping apart a concept and showing you how it’s pseudo-science, a scam or crap.

With dieting shit and supplements, you just type “supplementname scam”, and you will often very quickly learn if they thing is a scam, coz there will be some qualified individuals online both ripping it apart, AND showing you what deception was initially used to imply the supplement does anything.

Cognitive Dissonance

Cognitive dissonance is a discomfort caused by holding conflicting cognitions (e.g., ideas, beliefs, values, emotional reactions) simultaneously. In a state of dissonance, people may feel surprise, dread, guilt, anger, or embarrassment.[1] The theory of cognitive dissonance in social psychology proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance by altering existing cognitions or adding new ones to create consistency.[1] The diagram to the right shows a new cognition being integrated into a person’s belief system to resolve such a conflict. An example of this would be the conflict between wanting to smoke and knowing that smoking is unhealthy; a person may try to change their feelings about the odds that they will actually suffer the consequences, or they might add the consonant element that the smoking is worth short term benefits.

The phrase was coined by Leon Festinger in his 1956 book When Prophecy Fails, which chronicled the followers of a UFO cult as reality clashed with their fervent belief in an impending apocalypse.[2][3] Cognitive dissonance is one of the most influential and extensively studied theories in social psychology. Cognitive disequilibrium is a closely related concept in the cognitive developmental theory of Jean Piaget: the inevitable conflicts a child experiences between current beliefs and new information will lead to disequilibrium, which in turn motivates the child’s progress through the various stages of development.

Cognitive dissonance theory warns that people have a bias to seek consonance among their cognitions. This bias gives the theory its predictive power, shedding light on otherwise puzzling irrational and even destructive behavior.

Apparently, this is what influenced Norway to abolish women’s studies. It’s a series called “brainwashing”. It’s super-amazingly cool.
